Food Sensualist's Guide to Pune Eateries

Most of my favorite resturants are in Koregaon. I guess it is the presence of lots of rich and fine living people around that area. People paying the kind of money and used to good things in life expect good taste and that shows.
Arthur's Theme
If there is one place that in my experience has managed the consistent quality of food, its Arthur's Theme. As the name suggests the resturant is inspired in some ways by the story of King Arthur. The decor in a wee bit and the names of the dishes is patterned on the ancient Kings and Queens.
The wine menu is not too vast but if you ask them they can tell you what liquor and few wines they have. Not the best place for those on liquid diet. But if you want good food the menu offers plenty of options. There is pasta, there are mushrooms and potatoes and then there is all sorts of meat including roasted turkey (might be the only place in Pune serving roasted whole turkey). Food tastes good, is not very expensive with most dishes under 200/- when I last visited some months back.
What really endears me to the place is that a dishes tastes pretty much similar to what it tasted the last time you order. Not those cases like - sorry our regular cook is away this week so this thing you ordered tastes something not quite entirely unlike what you ordered yesterday that sometimes happen in other places.
Prices: ~200/-
Location - off North Main Road Koregain, take the Pizza hut turn, right next to Malacca Spice.

Indyaki
My late favorite used to be Indyaki. I found their service to be 3rd rate for any joint forget something aiming to be upper crust still their cook esp for continental food made the place worth it. Infact I almost invariably ended up scolding the floor manager for the soups that will arrive after finger bowls, Wine that will never arrive and Rotis that will be found to be over after you get the curry on the table. Then the place vanished for a while. Some time ago someone told me of this new place called Indyaki which apparently was the old Indyaki and I comandeered a friend and headed to check it out.
The place is now reburbished and apparently has a new owner. The service quality has improved quite a bit bordering sometimes of being a bit too friendly. The dishes are good, I quite liked the kebabs. The menu has also changed. Its now primarily Indian fare with no signs of continental. I miss the continental but overall maybe its a change for better and thats a loaded statement coming from a foodie who now like the food a lil less than that of old but the service levels now belong to human world.
Prices - ~200-300/- dish
Location - on South Main Road Koregaon. Coming from the Residency side, keep a lookout for a decorated tree on your left and thats the place.

Nawab
This is apparently a Lucknawi joint serving all sorts of North Indian/Pakistani/Afgani fare. I was told about this by a friend come down from Mumbai and wanting to visit. I had never heard of it but managed to find out. The place is quite a revelation.
Weather permitting and prior reservation can get you a place on the terrace which is much more fun with its sofas. The wine list is huge though count on most of it being 'out of stock' (its a new thing I notice in lots of resturant these days. The choice of drinks will be 10 pages but actual availabile drinks might be 10 brands in total). Still you can get decent drinks.
The food shines. The Afganistani\LucknowiPeshawai kebabs and they have some vegetarians ones that are probably better than meat ones, ask the server for help make a trip worth it. I often take my European guests over and they find the food not overloaded with spices you can safely take Paredesi folks there when you need to. The rice and roti stuff is good too.
Prices: around 200/- a dish
Location - Opposite Pune Club, next to Blue Nile, look for a shabby place with music and then look up the first floor which is where this is
